Kamikochi (self-catering, stay for about 4 hours) Suggested route ①: Taisho Pond Bus Stop > Taisho Pond > Tashiro Pond > Kappa Bridge > Kamikochi Bus Station For those who are coming to Kamikochi for the first time, I recommend this route. Beginner’s route~ You can complete the important scenic spots in Kamikochi without having to go back. The total distance is about 3.5km and can be completed in about 1 to 1.5 hours. The trail is gentle and easy to walk. The continuous and magnificent mountain scenery along the way is absolutely amazing. You linger! Route ②: Kamikochi Bus Stop > Kappa Bridge > Myojin Bridge > Hotaka Shrine Okumiya & Myojin Pond > Takezawa Wetlands > Kamikochi Bus Stop If you are a brave person and have plenty of time, it is highly recommended to walk along the Azusagawa River Stroll to "Myojin Bridge", the round trip is 5.6km, and it takes about 2 to 2.5 hours of walking. In addition to the dazzling mountain and riverside scenery along the way, Myojin Bridge is more peaceful and beautiful than the crowded Kappa Bridge!
[Kappa Bridge] Kappa Bridge is a symbolic attraction of Kamikochi, just a 5-minute walk from the bus center. From the bridge, you can overlook the Hondaka Mountain Range, Yakidake, and the water of the Azusagawa River. The May long holiday, summer vacation, and red leaf season attract many tourists from Japan and abroad.
[Myojin Pond] It takes about 60 minutes to walk from Kappa Bridge along the upper Azusa River to Myojin. This place is called the sacred realm of Okumiya of Hodaka Shrine. All kinds of wild plants and wild birds are suitable for calming down and feeling the tranquility surrounded by nature. The view of Mt. Myojin from Myojin Bridge is also very spectacular, attracting many photography enthusiasts.
Enjoy some relaxing time with your family in the quiet and cool forest.

Starting from Murodo, the core location of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, walk along the trail for about 15 to 20 minutes to the Jigokudani Observatory. Along the way, you can enjoy alpine plants, residual snow scenery and volcanic landforms. The observatory is located on the Murodo flat ground, and is the best place to overlook the Jigokudani and the Tateyama mountain range in the distance.
If the weather is good, the spectacular sea of clouds rolls in the valley, and the peaks stand on top like floating islands. The scenery is ever-changing and extremely shocking. Geothermal activities can also be observed here, and the sulfur gas and white smoke seem to add a mysterious atmosphere to this plateau.
Mikurigaike The water of Mikurigaike is clear and deep blue. On sunny days, it is like a natural mirror, reflecting the Tateyama Mountains and the blue sky and white clouds, which is amazing.
The four seasons are distinct: Late spring and early summer (June): The lake begins to thaw, and the remaining snow and the lake water interweave, creating a beautiful scene. Summer (July-August): The lake is full of greenery, and the lakeside is full of alpine plants, which is a good time for hiking and photography. Autumn (late September): The lake area turns red, reflecting the red leaves and snowy peaks. Winter (after mid-October): The lake gradually freezes, and the snow scenery is white and magnificent (the mountain is closed after November). Legend: The name of the lake "Mikouri" means "the kitchen of the gods", and it is said to be a sacred pond for the gods of the Tateyama faith to drink water. There is frequent geothermal activity nearby, and sulfur vents and geothermal steam can be seen, indicating that this is an active volcanic area.
