We highly recommend this round-trip train trip from Shinjuku Station directly to Matsumoto Station. It saves us the four- to five-hour bus ride each way (not counting traffic). The travel agency's tour bus goes directly from Matsumoto Station to Kamikochi (staying for 150 minutes), which is very convenient, since we don't have to transfer to local buses. The only downside is that the stops at each stop are a bit short, but that's unavoidable! Each attraction is a bit far from each other. We arrived at Gero Onsen Hotel in the evening. Although the hotel is quite old, it's generally clean and well-maintained. Most importantly, the view from the window is absolutely stunning! If we could have stayed another half hour longer than the next day's trip to Takayama and Hida (staying for about 80 minutes), it would have been perfect. Perhaps a group member was 25 minutes late earlier in Shirakawa-go, which affected our stay there. Finally, we arrived at Takamatsu Station around 6:00 PM to prepare for the 8:00 PM train back to Shinjuku. Finally, we have to mention our tour leader, Mr. Maehara, who was very nice and responsible, even though his English wasn't very good. Because the main communication language of this group is Japanese), they also tried their best to explain, and inadvertently waited for directions at Fenyikou along the way (because the itinerary is a free time trail, probably because they didn't want to have a duck group style)! As a simple experience, each place is very good, which is helpful for making detailed arrangements for future independent travel.

When we come to Japan, we drive ourselves. We are used to it. We gather at Shinjuku Station in the morning and then take the express to Matsumoto City. I haven't joined a tour group for more than 20 years. Although I don't have flexible time when traveling with a tour group, fortunately we have a good tour leader who can accurately control the time so that the itinerary is very flexible. This was my first time to join a 2-day tour, and it was a Japanese tour. All the tour members were Japanese, and we were the only four from Taiwan. I would like to especially thank our tour leader Mr. Kurata for always taking care of us and letting us sit behind him, and for patiently explaining the route and itinerary of the attractions to us in English. Mr. Kurata is an experienced and friendly leader! The scenic spots are very beautiful. Kamikochi, Gassho Village, and Hida Old Street are all great attractions. It is a great experience. I will participate again next time. On the way back, they also gave us lunch boxes to eat on the Shinkansen, and tickets to let us return to Komagome Station where we stayed. It was a very thoughtful service.
