You need to change to the physical tix by activating the pass in advance by visiting the shinjuku odakyu office (double check their opening hours). Using the pass is relatively easy. You just flash it at the officer on the counter at the train station or at the bus driver when you alight the bus. So make sure you dont lose the pass. Since we spent 2 nights at kawaguchiko, unfortunately we were not able to fully explore hakone, since we left only with one day. The reason why we felt we could do without the pass (1) our hotel (toyoko inn) provide free shuttle from train station to hotel (2) the hotel also provide free shuttle to other tourist spots like Gotemba Premium Outlet and Oshino Hakkai All in all, should plan your time more at hakone to fully use of the pass since there are more benefits at Hakone for the pass. Good value for money ONLY if you fully utilize it.

Worth it if you’re using more than two transports in hakone. Can just buy hakone pass without the Fuji area pass cause Fuji bus I think it’s not so expensive
