Every dish is carefully prepared, from quality ingredients, seasonal combinations, to cooking techniques, all done with ingenuity. The dishes are full of color, flavor and flavor, especially the sesame tofu, which is even more memorable!

2/10 (Saturday) Went to Arashiyama/Tenryuji Temple on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Taste Shojin cuisine Shojin cuisine, which I have heard for a long time, may seem simple, but each dish is rich in invisible details. For example, if you think you don't have enough food for soybeans, just eat one and taste it. It turns out that after chewing, it has a deep and slightly sweet taste; it looks like Sichuan blanched cauliflower with sauce, but the yellow sauce tastes like yellow mustard and is slightly sour and irritating. The mustard flavor (remembering that Japanese food has another spicy and exciting plant seasoning, I forgot the name for a moment), makes ordinary green vegetables have many layers; the konjac, which I don’t really appreciate, is cooked to the heart with marinade. Sweet, salty and chewy; I was surprised to find rice cakes in the soy milk pot... I was full again and still had a big bowl of rice left! By the way, the peanut tofu tastes so rich~ It always reminds me of Shiyang Sanfang🤣

It is a pleasure to eat vegetarian food in Japan, but it does not contain onions, so you need to tell the store to remove them!

Because I remembered the time wrongly, I was able to get a seat when I arrived at the restaurant. I’m so grateful☺️ You can eat vegetarian food in a traditional place, which is super fun:) The store is inside Tenryuji Temple! Admission ticket JPY¥500

The food is pretty good, but one star is deducted because you have to kneel or sit on the tatami to eat, but it seems you can use chairs to sit and eat. It's a bit expensive for the food, but it's a good vegetarian experience. There is another VEGAN restaurant nearby near Saga Arashiyama. If you think it is too expensive for vegetarian meals, you may consider it.

It was my first time to try Shojin ryori. The food was unexpectedly delicious. It was very quiet inside the restaurant. From the Japanese-style building of the restaurant, I could see the green courtyard scenery. I experienced the Japanese tradition of sitting on the tatami to eat.

The food was delicious, the portions seemed small and vegetarian, but it was also filling. The only drawback is that it is very close to other people's tables, so it will be noisy and I will not be able to enjoy the food.

Siyue cuisine is not suitable for Taiwanese people who are not used to eating it, even if they want to add rice.
