Schedule

Day 1

08:00

Depart from Hakata Station Chikushi Exit (Please arrive at the meeting point 10 minutes in advance)

11:00

Arrive at Mount Aso (tour duration about 30 minutes) for a unique view, experience the "living" crater up close, take our bus directly to the Nakadake crater, saving the trouble of the shuttle bus, more convenient and faster.

Note: If the crater is closed in July 2025, you will go to Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine instead.

11:50

Arrive at Kusasenri (about 60 minutes) Kusasenri Beach is the remains of a crater at the northern foot of Mount Tomotake. There is a grassland of 785,000 square meters. Sometimes you can see cattle and horses grazing against the background of the smoky Nakadake.

14:20

Arrive at Takachiho Gorge (approximately 60 minutes) Takachiho Gorge is famous for its clear and transparent mountain springs, which is also the pride of the locals. Takachiho Gorge was formed by nearby volcanic activity about 100,000 years ago. You can walk along the canyon trail and experience the grandeur and mystery of the canyon from all sides.

You can also choose to take a boat through the canyon and enjoy the spectacular sight of the Manai Waterfall cascading down the cliff. Note: If you choose [One-day Cruise] and the cruise is out of service, the cruise fee will be refunded.

18:00

Arrive at Hakata Station Chikushi Exit and disband

The above itinerary is for reference only. Traffic conditions are beyond our control. Please avoid arranging activities on that night. We apologize for any delays.

Our guide Moon was very warm and friendly and took good care of the group. She provided lots of information about the places we visited as well as other little nuggets of information along the way. The small group tour I was on comprised of 18 participants which was great. Most of the participants were on time and allowed the tour to proceed smoothly.

We were lucky to see Mt. Aso volcano crater. It was really terrific experience. I would like to thank our guide Daisy. She is really nice and helpful, especially we are vegetarians She helped us to order the meal at Mt. Aso restaurant. Takachiho Gorge worths visit. Boat rowing is a must. It is really a different experience in a boat running through the gorge. Daisy helped us booked the boat. Daisy is really nice and she even advised Fannie’s cuisine in Hakata.

The tour was overall great as Icelyn made sure everything ran smoothly. While we were not able to go to the crater, all the other sights made up for it. Thank you, Icelyn!

The tour leader, Mr. Shi Yunfei, was very attentive in his explanations and was very patient with every traveler. I was very satisfied with the overall itinerary. Please give Xiaoshi some encouragement! The only drawback was that the car was very small and the seats were very narrow, making long-distance travel quite uncomfortable. I hope this will be improved. Thank you.

I'm used to traveling independently, and it's been a while since I've joined a tour group. Because the distance was long and the weather was scorching, I decided to join a friend's recommended Kkday tour of Takachiho Gorge, Mount Aso, and Kusasenri. We were treated to breathtaking views of nature's wonders, and our guide, Kevin Yang, was incredibly enthusiastic, dedicated, and humorous, adding a touch of class to the itinerary. It was a truly enjoyable trip.

After arriving in the Aso area, our guide, Hedy, explained, "One good news, one bad news." The good news was that Mount Aso was fully open; the bad news was that the Takachiho boat trip was canceled due to heavy rain yesterday. We were also delayed by an accident on the highway on the way there, so we could only spend 30 minutes at Mount Aso. With the weather cooperating, we could see the crater lake, the ash deposits, and the avalanche structures. Our second stop, Kusasenri, was a beautiful grassland. We stayed there for an hour, including a meal. If we had eaten, we probably wouldn't have had time to explore the area (or the Aso Volcano Museum). It is recommended that you bring your own food and eat in the car (I didn't see any tourists picnicking outdoors or on the grassland). I was most looking forward to the Takachiho Gorge. Although I couldn't row a boat (I heard from friends who have participated in rowing: rowing is very tiring, and you have to keep avoiding collisions with other boats), on the way down the canyon, you can see beautiful basalt, some vertical and some lying, with (yellow) streams flowing through the rocks, and the basalt joints have sharp edges, which is different from the Penghu basalt that has been smoothed by long-term weathering. Although it is tiring to climb up from the canyon, it is worth it.
