乾陵修建於公元684年，是中國乃至世界上罕見的一座兩朝帝王、一對夫妻皇帝合葬陵，這裡埋葬著唐高宗李治和他的妻子——中國的女皇帝武則天。這座陵墓也是中國古代帝王陵墓中少數沒有被盜掘的陵墓。乾陵景區面積較大，除了乾陵外，還有多個陪葬墓，分別埋葬著多位皇室成員和大臣，目前挖掘的主要有章懷太子墓，懿德太子墓和永泰公主墓。
