Great tour! The guides Mitch and Zack were super welcoming and gave amazing facts along the trip. Nice snack provisions and “swagtastic” coats provided for the cold up top. The sunset is breathtaking and the star gazing section was a lifetime memory!

The weather was a bit cloudy on the day I joined the tour, so I couldn't clearly see the sunset— which was honestly a bit disappointing 😢 BUT! I saw the Volcano Fountain from a distance!!🌋 Our guide told us that, considering the height from Mauna Kea, it must have been several thousand feet tall—possibly a new record! 😲 It was such a rare and lucky moment—maybe once in a lifetime—and I felt incredibly happy to witness it. Another highlight: The guides took amazing photos, and the cute Hawaiian-style jacket they lent us was adorable! We also looked at the moon through a powerful telescope— So Magical 🌕 I absolutely recommend this tour to everyone. One small downside: It was difficult to get in touch with the tour provider beforehand. I tried email, calling, and even contacting customer service, but didn’t receive a reply. Still, the experience itself was fantastic and wonderful!

Super worth it! In winter, you can still see snow in the mountains. The temperature is low, so it is recommended to bring a down jacket, gloves and a wool hat. You can go to the toilet at the visitor center first. There are only 4 mobile toilets in the observatory area.

In addition to visiting the national park to see the volcanoes, the sunset and stargazing at Maunakea are definitely worth a visit to the Big Island! In addition to giving a clear introduction along the way, the tour guide is also equipped with some medical care and thick clothes in the car, which is very professional. The road up the mountain is very steep, so I really recommend you not to drive yourself. Especially first-time visitors! The tour guide also took out professional astronomical telescopes when stargazing. It was really beautiful to see stars tens of thousands of light years away!

First of all, the guide was really friendly and handsome. It was cold because I wasn't well prepared for the cold, but it wasn't very windy so it wasn't very difficult. Most of the time I was on the move, and I felt dizzy and short of breath. (Altitude sickness x) Despite that, the moon wasn't up, so I could see the stars really clearly, and although it was a long time, it was the most memorable tour. (The first photo was taken and sent by the tour operator)

Safety part: The tour leader is very professional, familiar with the local culture, road conditions, and climate, and takes good care of everyone. It's very cold and the air pressure is low in the mountains. There are almost no lights at night, and the mountain roads are winding. I feel safe going with the group because I won't be afraid of any unexpected accidents that I can't deal with. Part of the itinerary: The tour leader will share many local cultures, flora and fauna, history and stories along the way, and you will pass by the visitor center to learn about the work of the observatory. After staying for 30 minutes, continue to the top of the mountain. You will stop and explain the stories of each point on the way, and then watch the sunset on the top of the mountain. After the sun goes down, the tour leader will take us to a location suitable for stargazing, explain the stars, use a high-end camera to help us take photos with the Milky Way, and provide hot drinks and snacks. He is super attentive.
