Semporna Mangrove Forest Shared Half-Day Cruise Tour: Proboscis Monkey & Firefly Watching with Local Delight Dinner | Sabah

This time I stayed in Semporna for five days and planned an itinerary for three days. This itinerary was originally planned just because I didn’t want to go to sea every day~! Unexpectedly, Tour Guide Daniu made everyone laugh and laugh from beginning to end! We took a boat ride to find proboscis monkeys, sang for everyone, organized activities, and watched fireflies. The whole night was very happy and joyful. Thank you Tour Guide Daniu for keeping the atmosphere lively throughout the night and making everyone have a happy night! ! [Daniu also took great care to take photos of everyone on the boat! Let everyone keep a souvenir ~ The important thing is that the photography skills are super good! ! ! It’s really very attentive]

A special experience, I was lucky enough to catch a proboscis monkey. The tour guides and tour companions were very kind and their explanations were very good. Very good experience 👍

The tour guide team was very considerate and detailed from the pick-up to the tour, and the pace was just right. It was a great and comfortable experience!

The cruise tour is decent because it’s either a hit / miss whether you spot the proboscis monkey / crocodiles or not. We spotted 2 throughout our journey & then had to head back as it was getting dark. The fireflies viewing was nice too where the guides used lights to draw them to the boat. That said, they should stop some tourists from capturing the fireflies in a bottle without releasing them even when we got back to the dock. Truly a sad sight… The company threw in some additional short activities before the cruise tour which is a nice addition. The food however is below par & calling it a buffet is really pushing it. I’d consider it more of chap fan style with 5 / 6 varieties.

The waiting time was very long. The itinerary said it would start at 16:30, but the car picked up at 15:30. As a result, once we arrived at the site, we had to wait for other passengers who were playing ATV. By the time we actually set off, it was already after 17:30. Although we didn't see the proboscis monkey, we did see other monkeys and fireflies, which was quite worthwhile. It is only recommended for tourists who do not stick to time and regulations. There is no need to keep going back to pick them up, and there is no need to wait specially for them.

I was very lucky to see a lot of proboscis monkeys and fireflies. It was a rare experience~~ I heard from the tour guide that the sun was covered by clouds, so it was a pity that there was no place to watch the sunset. There are many mosquitoes in the rest area, remember to bring mosquito repellent!
