Initially we were lost trying to find the redemption point but luckily it was just nearby. The guy then brought us to the queue where the wait wasn't too long and the view at night was really nice! Together with eating the food at the night market, it makes a great way to end the day.

There were a lot of touts around the boat dock, and I thought the price was the same everywhere, but it seemed expensive, so I checked the website and booked through KKday. I ended up finding out that the price was more than three times what the touts had told me. The boat ride was fun.

After researching online the best time to meet at the travel agency, where the lanterns would be lit and the city's neon lights would shine, while the sun was still setting, I headed toward the meeting point. There wasn't a clearly visible kkday logo on the building or in front of the store, so I ended up passing it by. As I was wandering around with my smartphone in hand, a staff member noticed me and called out to me. As other reviews had mentioned, I enjoyed a cold drink with ice, which provided a momentary respite from the heat. Once a few groups had gathered, an attendant guided us to the dock. It was a busy time around sunset, and the river was jammed with boats. 😱 I was prepared for a long queue, but thanks to my advance reservation, I was able to board after only a minute or two. It was a small rowboat, so we boarded one at a time, guided by the boatman. He guided us to where we sat to maintain balance, and life jackets were provided, giving us a sense of security. I was worried that the lanterns wouldn't float smoothly in a congested area with boats, but the boatman spoke to me in simple English and before I knew it, we were in an area with fewer boats. We enjoyed the beautiful riverside scenery from the river in a relaxed setting, and the boatman took lots of photos for us. He also explained the timing and how to float the lanterns. It was a very satisfying 20 minutes!! If you want to float lanterns in Hoi An Old Town, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance!

This year, we went to Hoi An for an overnight stay to coincide with the Lantern Festival. It was definitely darker than last time, so I brought a small flashlight with me (I can't see bumps and such). Last year, the candles didn't flow properly, so I carefully lit them. A real downpour hit in the evening! My wife didn't want to go, so I put on my raincoat and carried an umbrella and apologized to the tour office for canceling. She said the rain would stop by 8, so we'd have to eat first and come back before 9. While I was getting my massage, the rain stopped, and we lined up for the boat, which finished safely, and we made it in time for our meal reservation.

Hoi An Ancient Town is truly a worthwhile destination, especially at night when the illuminated streets are particularly charming and charming. Ticket collection is located within the ancient town itself, and cars are not allowed. A 5-8 minute walk is required, but you'll soon find yourself in a vibrant blend of Chinese and Vietnamese culture. Continue straight ahead and you'll meet the entrance staff, who will ask you to buy a ticket. Tell them you already have one, and they'll let you in. Otherwise, you might need to buy more (I showed them my WhatsApp message letting them know I already had one). The ticket collection area is easy to find; if you can't find it, you can contact them via messaging app. The staff will patiently guide you. Upon arrival, they'll give you a krathong and a cup of mint tea to quench your thirst, then guide you to the boat station. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes—very efficient. I especially recommend taking the boat at night, as the boat ride lasts about 20-25 minutes. While the boats appear chaotic, they actually sail and dock in an orderly fashion. You'll enjoy a unique boating experience. You can also eat a lot of local delicacies in the ancient town, and the dining environment of the restaurants is relatively clean. This is really a very special attraction worth visiting.

In Vietnam, prices are often not clearly stated and you have to negotiate, but it's a good idea to book in advance. I booked through KKday, but the person serving me was wearing an orange Klook shirt, which made me a little hesitant. After showing my voucher, they gave me a drink and took me to the boat dock. It's definitely better to take the boat at night in Hoi An.

The night view of the river in Hoi An is fantastic, and we enjoyed floating lanterns on a boat. The man on the boat kindly took photos and videos with his smartphone for us to remember.

Since we had children with us, we floated the lanterns before it got completely dark, but it was also nice to float them as it gradually got darker. We had tea at the meeting point and were immediately guided. Since there were four of us, we boarded the boats two at a time. There were many boats, but we were able to enjoy the scenery from the river for a while. The children seemed to have had a good experience too.
