I chartered a van for my cruise's port of call very early on and the merchant was very kind to follow-up consistently and replied to my questions etc. A few days before our arrival in Kumamoto port, the merchant sent me the details of the driver and pick up time so that I did not have to worry about where to meet the driver etc. Driver was very punctual and patient with us, shared his experience and life in Japan along the trip. Walked us to the places of attraction to assist with the ticket buying as we do not speak any Japanese. He waited patiently for us while we did our sight-seeing, shopping etc. He also gave plenty of suggestions on what to do and where to go in Kumamoto and sent us back to the cruise ship smoothly and in time for us to shop around the port before boarding.
