Putuo Mountain Nanhai Guanyin is located on the Guanyin Tiao Hill at the southern end of Shuangfeng Mountain. Puji Temple, also known as Qian Temple, is located at the southern foot of Lingjiu Peak on Baihuading Peak. It was first built in the second year of Zhenming (916) in Houliang. In the thirty-eighth year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1699), Putuo Zen Temple was built to protect the country and Yongshou, and was given the title of "Pu Ji Qun Ling", which was originally called "Pu Ji Zen Temple". The ancient buildings on the central axis of Puji Temple are the Royal Stele Hall, the Tianwang Hall, the Yuantong Hall and the Sutra Library. Puji Temple is one of the three major temples in Putuo Mountain. The overall layout adopts the traditional central axis method and makes full use of the terrain to arrange individual buildings. It integrates the culmination of Qing Dynasty architecture and is a typical representative of Zhejiang Qing Dynasty official architecture.

It is said that Guanyin Bodhisattva once preached the "Heart Sutra" on this stone. Buddhism attaches great importance to cultivating the heart. When people go to Putuo Mountain to worship the Buddha, they like to go to the Heart Character Stone, circle around it and touch it, or sit in the Heart Character Stone and take photos as a symbol of their sincerity to the Buddha or human friendship.

According to the records of ancient mountain records, in the thirteenth year of Dazhong, the Japanese monk Hui E returned home from Wutai Mountain with a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva. His boat passed Mount Putuo and was blocked by the ocean. He thought that the Bodhisattva did not want to go east, so he docked and left the Buddha statue. It was left by a resident named Zhang. Worshiping, known as "refusing to go to Guanyin Yuan", was the beginning of opening a mountain for Putuo to offer sacrifices to Buddha.
