A snack bar is a type of bar where people can enjoy socializing, drinking, and eating. However, the most enjoyable part is talking with the mama and master, the owners of the bar. They serve food (often homemade and delicious) and entertain guests with singing, conversation, and even dancing! Snack bars are a part of Japanese nightlife culture, but it can be difficult for first-timers to knock on the door and step inside. This tour, led by an English-speaking guide, opens the door to this world, and you’re sure to enjoy your visit! Our guide, Mark-san, was a very kind and fun person. The Daikumachi district, where the tour takes place, is a 20-minute walk from JR Mito Station, so I recommend using a local bus or taxi. The tour takes place during the Plum Blossom Festival at Kairakuen Garden, with a nighttime light-up, making it a memorable evening in Japan!
