It was very smooth and inexpensive. As long as you arrived early, queued up, and showed the driver your ID, you could get on the bus without any problems.

I've bought tickets multiple times; it's cheaper than swiping my card on the bus. It's very convenient for traveling to and from the airport late at night. The only downside is that the driver needs time to verify the receipt, especially if you're not boarding at the starting station, as the driver has to spend time verifying the receipt on the roadside.
